Gateway to the Marlborough Sounds
Picton - the quaint and lively ‘gateway’ to the magnificent Marlborough Sounds, is also the converging point for ferry passengers traversing the waters of Cook Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound between the North and South Islands.
Picton and the surrounding area, though, is far more than just a departure or arrival point for travellers heading further afield; it is indeed a destination in itself. It is a place to linger and enjoy and one in which to savour the many delights for which the region has become so justly acclaimed.
Whether you plan to:
- Hike or cycle the fabulous Queen Charlotte Track
- Enjoy a full or half day tour of the world renowned Marlborough wine region
- Go kayaking for a half day or multi day adventure
- Take a day trip on the mail boat or shorter hike in the sounds
- Potter leisurely via the scenic Queen Charlotte Drive to the picturesque little town of Havelock the green shell mussel capital of the work and dine on mussels for lunch
- Shop and relax
Then Picton is the place to spend a couple of days.
